What a checkout lane costs per month
Card processing costs about the same with any provider, so that isn't the comparison. The real cost of a lane is who or what runs it. A cashier mans one lane; one attendant can watch several self-checkout lanes — or you can run them fully unattended.

Processing is the same whoever runs the lane, so it doesn't change the saving — the saving is the labor a cashier costs that an unattended lane doesn't. A staffed lane = wage × hours × 4.33 weeks; an attendant is costed the same. Self-checkout = $15.00/lane on Shop, no staff.
