The label is the law. Read your product's label and follow it: the rate, where and on what you may use it, the protective equipment, the mixing order, and the re-entry and pre-harvest intervals. This calculator only does the arithmetic on the numbers you take from the label.

This calculator holds no product data and never suggests a rate. Enter the rate exactly as your label prints it, in the label's own units.

Your sprayer's output comes from calibrating your own sprayer, over the same area the label rate uses.

Liquid and dry units never mix: fluid ounces, pints, quarts, gallons, milliliters and liters measure volume; ounces, pounds, grams and kilograms measure weight. An ounce by weight is not a fluid ounce.

Fluid ounces, pints, quarts and gallons here are US measures. A UK (imperial) pint or gallon is larger; if your label is metric, use milliliters and liters.

If the label says per gallon of water, enter the water you will add; if it says per gallon of spray, enter the finished volume.

Platform help and more options

Use this calculator in an AI chat

You can ask Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to work this out for you, and this calculator opens right inside the chat. You connect TallyTill to your AI app once. It is free, and there is no account and no sign-in.

AI apps call add-ons like this connectors, apps or MCP servers. They all mean the same thing: a way for the AI to use a tool someone else made.

1. Copy this address

Copy the address to your clipboard.

2. Add it to your AI app

Claude (claude.ai and the Claude desktop app)

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Press + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it TallyTill calculators, paste the address and press Continue.
  4. Under Authentication choose No sign in, then press Add.
  5. In a new chat, press + at the bottom left, choose Connectors and switch TallyTill calculators on.

On Claude's free plan you can add one custom connector.

ChatGPT

  1. In Settings, turn on Developer mode. OpenAI moves this switch from time to time; it is usually with the settings for apps and connectors.
  2. Add a new connector (ChatGPT may call it an app), paste the address and choose No authentication.
  3. In a new chat, choose TallyTill from the tools menu, or type @ and pick it.

Not every ChatGPT plan lets you add your own connector. If you cannot find the option, your plan may not include it.

Using another AI app? Look in its settings for MCP, add the address as a remote server, and choose no sign-in.

3. Ask your question

Say "use TallyTill", so the AI uses the calculator instead of doing the sum itself. For example:

"Use TallyTill: How much product goes in my sprayer tank at the label rate?"

What you will see

  • The calculator opens in the chat with the numbers you gave already filled in. Change any number and the answer updates.
  • If a number is missing, the box is highlighted, or the AI asks you for it in plain words.
  • The answer links back to this page, so you can check the working.
  • The first time, your AI app asks if it may use TallyTill. Choose Allow.

The calculators take numbers only. They never ask for your name, your email or a password.

How this is worked out

One tank covers the tank size divided by your sprayer's output per acre, per 1,000 square feet or per hectare. The product in a tank is the label rate times the area one tank covers. For a field, the product is the label rate times the field's area, and the tank loads are the field's area divided by one tank's coverage. In a container, the product is the label amount times the volume you are mixing divided by the volume the label amount is for. Units convert by their exact definitions, liquid with liquid and dry with dry only.

A worked example

Example numbers only, for no particular product; always use the rate on your own label. If a label said 2 pints an acre and your sprayer puts out 20 gallons an acre, a 300-gallon tank covers 15 acres and takes 30 pints. If a label said 2 fluid ounces per gallon, a 3-gallon sprayer takes 6 fluid ounces.
