What this does for you
Every TallyTill farm is set up a little differently — a farm stand needs different settings from a CSA, and a CSA needs different settings from a meat share. This manual is your map: what every farm sets up, and what only matters if you sell a certain way.
- Set it up once. Most of these settings don't need touching again.
- Only see what applies to you. Turn a feature off and its settings disappear too — nothing clutters your Portal that you don't use.
- One table at the end tells you exactly what to check for your kind of farm.
Part 1 — Every farm sets these up
Your business
Click Settings, then Business. This sets the defaults every device on your account uses, unless one device overrides it. Two worth knowing on day one:
- Manager PIN — lets a manager approve a price change or a discount at the till without handing out the PIN that also opens every admin screen.
- Branding → Business Name — your farm's own name, shown on the checkout header, receipts, your member page, sign-in emails and pack-day sheets. Leave it blank and the checkout header shows only the TallyTill brand.
Your team
Click Team. Invite anyone who helps you run the farm, and give them a role.
- Owner — you. Runs everything, including the team itself.
- Admin — runs the business: settings, payments, billing, devices and the team. Can't delete the account.
- Staff — day-to-day work: products, stock, customers, orders, taking and reconciling payments. Can't see where payments are sent, payment setup, till PINs or saved API keys.
- Viewer — sees sales and reports, changes nothing.
💡 Pro Tip: Give seasonal help Staff, not Admin. They can sell and pack boxes without being able to change how your farm charges people.
Get paid — cards
Click Credit Card Processing. Click Connect with Stripe to link your account and take Card payments — you stay the merchant of record, and charges settle straight to your own Stripe account. Card readers (tap-to-pay) turn on further down the same page, once you're connected.
Get paid — cash and checks
Click Cash Payments. Turn on Accept cash payments and, if you take them, checks too.

Your devices
Click Devices to see every phone or tablet selling for you, and to register a new one. See the Selling with TallyTill manual for connecting a device step by step.
Your plan
Click Billing to see your plan and your billing history.
Part 2 — Only if you run shares (CSA boxes or animal shares)
These settings only appear once you've turned on CSA boxes or animal shares. If your farm is a stand or market booth only, skip this part.
Click the gear on your Shares overview to open CSA Settings.
What you offer
Two switches decide what shows up under Shares at all:
- CSA Boxes — the weekly-box CSA covered in Running Your CSA.
- Animal Shares — meat and animal shares, covered in Meat & Animal Shares.
Both are on when you first turn Shares on. Turn either one off if you don't use it, and its tab — and the switch between them — disappears.
Box CSA settings
These only matter if CSA Boxes is on:
- Taking New Members — turn off once your season is full.
- Members Can Swap An Item — lets a member swap one item for something of about the same value, until you lock the run. Comes with a swap-value tolerance percentage you can tighten or loosen.
- Boxes Nobody Collected — hold (the default), donate, or write off.
- Show Members What A Box Is Worth — off by default; turn on if you want members to see a box's value, not just what's in it.
CSA pickup stations
CSA Pickup Station here in CSA Settings is the farm-wide default for every device — leave it off unless most of your tills are pickup stations. To turn just one tablet into a pickup station (scan a box, check the member in, show what they owe, take payment) without changing that default, set it per device instead, under Devices → (that device) → Settings.
Part 3 — Only if you sell unattended
If a device sits on a stand with nobody watching it, these matter. If every sale is staffed, skip this part.
- Honor mode (on Cash Payments) swaps the change calculator for a short code customers write on their envelope or check.
- Kiosk Mode, Keep Screen Awake and Fullscreen, all under Devices → (that device) → Settings, lock the screen to checkout so nobody can back out to the phone's home screen or leave it asleep.
⚠️ Watch Out! These are per-device. If you run two tills — one staffed, one on an honor stand — only turn Kiosk Mode on for the one nobody's watching.

Troubleshooting
I don't see CSA Settings at all. Turn on CSA Boxes or Animal Shares under Business Settings first — CSA Settings only appears once one of them is on.
A staff member changed a setting they shouldn't have. Check their role under Team. Only Owner and Admin can change settings — give staff the Staff role, or Viewer if they only need to see reports.
I turned off CSA Boxes by mistake and lost my share plans. Nothing is deleted. Turn the switch back on and everything reappears exactly as it was.
Honor mode is on but I want a cashier back on this device. Turn off Honor mode on Cash Payments — it's a farm-wide setting per payment method, so check whether you also want a different device handling the honor stand instead.
